The Chelsea Arbor Addiction Treatment Center, a joint program of Chelsea Community Hospital and the University of Michigan Health System, treats alcoholism and other substance abuse problems. The OARC program, which is one of several Chelsea Arbor programs, specializes in helping older adults concerned about their dependence on alcohol, addictive medications, and other drugs. Visitors to the new OARC site, http://www.med.umich.edu/psych/sub/OARC/index.html (also linked from http://www.chelseaarbor.org), will find detail on the program’s clinic services, including inpatient and outpatient detoxification, intensive outpatient treatment, and standard outpatient treatment. Also covered are the risks and effects of heavy drinking and mixing alcohol with medicines. Highlighting the site are personal testimonials from recovering substance abuse patients who have benefited from the OARC program. An online questionnaire entitled “Do I Have a Problem?” helps site visitors determine whether to seek professional help. Another section provides a checklist of substance abuse symptoms. Site visitors will also find contact information for substance abuse self-help groups.
